Camel Lifting Chair

The Camel lifting chair will both sit up and lift a fallen person. With an inbuilt backrest and internal ring construction, the Camel offers a fully supportive lift that can be carried out entirely independently by the faller. Using the simple hand control and compressor provided the Camel is inflated section by section to bring the individual up into a position from which to stand. The Camel can be used anywhere, indoors or outside, and will lift a fallen person with dignity whilst protecting both the carer and the person being lifted from injury.

What's going on this week

We hope you all enjoyed the long bank holiday weekend. We have returned to the office to see the new build progressing well with the window and door frames now in place, and cement being laid in front of the unit. 

Elsewhere Steve, one of our experienced Service Engineers is attending a Demo Day for Easy Track Hoists in Berkshire today with our Seating Assessor Charlotte Jeffes. They will be demonstrating the easy track gantry system to OTs. 

The team visits Naidex

This week members of the Premiere Healthcare team travelled to the NEC in Birmingham to attend the 40th Naidex National exhibition. 

A great day was had by all with highlights including the launch of Kirton's new Florien Chair and the new Air Comfort Deluxe V2 from Apollo, both of which are now available through Premiere Healthcare.

PREMIERE MEETS DR HILARY JONES

In March, Premiere Healthcare Directors Graham and Jessica visited the new Repose factory to celebrate Repose’s 15 year anniversary. Repose marked the occasion with the appointment of a new expert advisor; TV personality Dr Hilary Jones.

Dr Hilary addressed the attendees and spoke of their plans for the next 12 months, including a number of campaigns headed up by Repose. Dr Hilary will be heading up a number of campaigns to endorse a range of Repose seating products, including ‘How To’ guides on topics such as posture and pressure management.

Of Repose’s recent 15 year anniversary Lisa said “Repose has enjoyed massive success over recent years, and our 15 year anniversary is a great time to celebrate this. Our new partnership with Dr Hilary has further opened up even more exciting opportunities for us. We are all excited to have Dr Hilary on board, and can’t wait to implement his ideas for the Repose brand.”

Les Jones, Business Development Manager at CareFlex

1) Why do you enjoy what you do?
My day to day workload is varied. One day I can be business planning with a distributor, the next day I could be working on a complex seating assessment.

2) What do you think is the greatest product on the market?
The Hydrotilt. I admit that I am a little bit biased but it’s simple and efficient design is very effective.

3) What do you predict to be the biggest change in the industry in 2014?
More of a wish than a prediction – improved communication between budget holders and suppliers so that there is a greater understanding of user requirements / expections.

4) Who is your greatest influence?
My mother.

6) What is your guilty pleasure?
McDonalds. It’s an occupational hazard!

Our new build unit is coming along really well. The mezzanine floor has been put in which will house our new office suite, with the showroom and training facility taking the ground floor.

We would like to say a huge congratulations to our brilliant Speacialist Seating assessor Annabell Thomas who successfully completed the Virgin Money London Marathon yesterday!

Annabell has been in training for many months in the run up to the race and we are delighted to annouce she finished in an impressive time of 5 hours, raising an incredible £1,146.69 for the NSPCC. 

Annabell said: "It was such an incredible experience, one that I'll never forget! I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who sponsored me so generously, I could not have done it without eveyone's support and I'm so thrilled to have raised so much for such a worthy charity."

Silvalea Training Day

The Premiere Healthcare specialist seating team attended a superb training day at Silvalea, Newton Abbott today. They met with Amanda Jenkins, Silvalea's Technical Support Manager who delivered their training on their comprehensive range of slings as well as their custom made options.

Charlotte said; "It was a brilliant day, the training was really well delivered by Amanda and I felt that we learnt a lot. It was a great opportunity to refresh our knowledge on the products we are familiar with and develop our understanding of products for users with more complex needs where Silvalea's custom made sling options would be used."

THIIS Magazine announce new OT Ambassador

Kirton Healthcare and Invacare have announced the exciting news that Gloucestershire OT and friend of Premiere Healthcare's Ellie Burcher has been appointed as new OT Ambassador for specialist seating and pressure care.

The new role will see Ellie help create and deliver the content for Kirton and Invacare's Seating Awareness Roadshow 2014. The concept of the Seating Awareness Days will be to offer free continued professional development opportunities to OTs and other healthcare professionals with specific interest in specialist seating, posture and pressure management.

The framework has been erected!!

It only week 4 and the main framework for Premiere's new building has been erected. The new offices are taking shape and the team are looking forward to it being finished and moving in!

We Raised £71.29 for Ramp up the Red!

On Friday 7th February Premiere Healthcare held a fundraising day for the British Heart Foundations' RAMP UP THE RED day.

The Premiere Healthcare team donated money to wear red for the day and also held a cake sale. Charlotte (dressed as a ladybird!) and Sophie took the cookies and cupcakes around to the rest of the business park to raise extra funds, which when finally counted, totalled £71.29 which was a fantastic result!

MHRA release new Bed Rail guidelines

In December 2013 the MRHA published new guidelines on the safe use of bed rails. They have reviewed and updated their guidance to take into account changes in devices and practises, as well as information gained from the investigation of adverse incidents.

It identifies areas for safe practices so that policies and procedures can be reviewed and put in place. This includes:

• Risk management
• Management responsibilities
• Meeting legal requirements
• Training
• Planned preventative maintenance

The document is aimed at all users, carers and staff with responsibility for the provision, prescription, use, maintenance and fitting of bed rails. This includes:

• MHRA liaison officiers (for onward distribution).
• Nurses in hospitals and the community.
• Occupational therapists.
• Physiotherapists.
• Care home managers and staff.
• Hospice managers and staff.
• Carers in the community abnd care-at-home staff.
• Community equipment stores (CES) and loan store managers.
• Those responsible for purchasing beds and bed rails.
• Maintenance staff.
• Health and safety managers.
• Risk managers.

Bed rails successfully prevent many falls, but their incorrect use has resulted in the deaths of bed occupants by asphyxiation through entrapment in gaps. Risk assessment is key to ensure safe use. It shold start with bed occupant and include the combination of the proposed equipment, the bed and the mattress.

Issues to consider:

• If the person is likely to fall from their bed, are bed rails the appropriate solution?
• Does the person's physical size or behaviour present a risk?
• Is the bed rail height appropriate for the bed occupant?
• Can the person's head, neck, chest or body become trapped between the bars of the bed rails? Or the other gaps created by the bed, rail, mattress and head/footboard combination?
• Is the bed rail fitted correctly - does it seem likely that it will move away from the side of the mattress or bed during use and so creating a hazard?
• Bed rails designed for adults should not be used for children.

Things to avoid:

• Gaps that could cause head, neck or chest entrapment when the mattress is compressed or between the end of the bed rail and the headboard or footboard.
• Using bed rails which are not compatible with the bed base.
• Using insecure fittings that let the bed rail drop down or move away from the side of the bed.
• Using bed rails that have been maintained regularly.
• Bed rails with parts missing.  

If either the bed, mattress, bed rail or condition of the occupant changes then the risk assessment should be carried out again.

1) Why do you enjoy what you do?
I love the variety of clients I can work with and different inputs I can help them with.

2) What do you think is the greatest product on the market?
I think the ranges of seating gives loads of opportunities to support clients, even when they have really complex needs.

3) What do you predict to be the biggest change in the industry in 2014?
The personalisation of products - clients are no longer happy to accept bad aesthetics on products. Equipment and adaptions have to look good.

4) Who is your greatest influence?
It has to be Sian Waygood. She gave me a job as a volunteer in Gloucester Royal Hospital when I wanted to be an OT. She gave me confidence in my abilities.

6) What is your guilty pleasure?
Midsomer Murders - slight crush on John Nettles!

7) Describe Premiere Healthcare in 3 words:

Etac Molift Demonstration

Daren Fenn, the Etac area manager for the Midlands visited Premiere Healthcare to demonstrate the New Molift Air yesterday.

The Premiere sales and marketing team enjoyed a thorough and informative visit from Daren who explained the features and advantages of the Molift Air Overhead Hoist, which was launched in September in 2013.  

Some of the unique points of the Molift Air include an internal computer system that service engineers can use to gauge exactly what needs servicing, effectively giving it a full service history. It also has an extra-long 3 meter tape making it suitable for rooms with high ceilings. To have everything made from start to finish in one place is fascinating, the team saw everything from the upholstery room to the spray room and wood room. Worldwide Stop Pressure Ulcer Day 
21st November 2013

Premiere Healthcare are proud to be supporting Worldwide Stop Pressure Ulcer Day, aimed at raising awareness of this life threatening condition that is almost entirely preventable with the right care.

Pressure ulcers, or bed sores, are estimated to cost the NHS up to £2 billion a year in care costs but the sad fact is that around 95% of all pressure ulcers are avoidable.

Premiere Healthcare actively work to support the community in the prevention of pressure ulcers by providing:

Our First Overhead Tracking Installation

We are pleased to anounce that our experienced & skilled service engineers have successfully installed our first overhead tracking hoist this week.

New to our servcing team, John and Steve who between them have brought 20 years of installation experience. They are fully trained and proficient in the installation and servicing of all Stair Lifts and Overhead Tracking across all manufacturer ranges.

Mud Runner

Kaylie and our seating specialist representative Charlotte Jeffes visited Frenchay Hospital yesterday to give the OTs at the Head Injury Rehabilitation Unit a demonstration on the new GE-II specialist seating chair from Kirton.

Specialist Seating Demonstration

This week Annabell and Charlotte from our specialist seating team visited the Occupational Therapists at St Woolos Hospital in Newport to perform a Specialist Seating demonstration. The hospital is looking for suitable seating for their new ward. We demonstrated the new GE-II from Kirton and the new SmartSeat and HydroFlex from CareFlex.

We are pleased to introduce Nigel Austin, another Service Engineer who joins our growing team. Nigel brings with him over 10 years' experience in the healthcare industry.

Keeping your equipment running smoothly

Did you know that we are able to provide wheelchair and bed servicing to nursing homes? Our recent contract awarded by the NHS for servicing their wheelchairs proves it. 

This often overlooked part of the running of a care home is essential to keeping your furniture looking and working its best It will even save you money in the long run as items will last longer. Our service contracts are flexible to suit your needs and budget and we even provide repairs as needed, always attempting to fix items on site where possible for minimal disruption. Our 24hr emergency line, 7 days a week is there to give you added peace of mind for those little emergencies.

Chair loan 

We are loaning two self propel wheelchairs to the children’s team at GCC for Children in Need. As a family run business we are strong supporters of this fantastic charity.

Should you be looking for any product loans yourself, then we are able to provide wheelchair loans to nursing homes too.

Introducing Rachel 

We are delighted to welcome Rachel to the Premiere Team. Rachel will be working as part of our Sales Support team so she’ll be speaking to many of you over the phone and via email over the coming months.

Rachel brings with her a wealth of experience to the role as well a diverse set of personal interests. She loves reading, especially novels by Wilbur Smith and Simon Scarrow, enjoys live music and concerts, rugby (being actively involved with Longlevens RFC Under 15’s and all their social and fundraising efforts), travelling to new and exciting places, her friends, entertaining and a nice glass of wine!

We’re pleased to welcome our new starters who have joined us recently. Our Sales Representative, Jane Diamond, is here to provide advice and information on our range of products and services. Helen Lightfoot, our Office Manager, organizes everything in our office on a day to day basis and helps coordinate orders and deliveries.
